Preparations for Recycling
At Looper, we prepare textiles to become feedstock for recycling.
While we’re not a large-scale recycler ourselves, we play a key role in enabling the process, working with partners around the world.
We are investing in the future, while being realistic about the impact we can make today. In 2024, 92% of textiles we prepared for recycling went into open-loop recycling—meaning they were transformed into new applications beyond their original use. These ranged from housing insulation to fill for equestrian flooring.
Closed-loop recycling in the form of textile-to-textile recycling represented 8% of recycled textile outcomes in 2024, with this figure steadily increasing. Today, closed-loop recycling occurs primarily via mechanical recycling of textiles, such as the shredding of garments to make new fiber.
We expect that within the next few years, chemical recycling of textiles will evolve so that there will be more garment recycling technologies available and reliable on a scale.
We are playing our role in enabling the circular textile economy, preparing textiles for closed-loop recycling, while remaining committed to diverting textile waste from wrongful disposal via open loop recycling.
