Preparations for Recycling
We prepare textiles to become feedstock for recycling.
While we’re not a large-scale recycler ourselves, we play a key role in enabling the process, working with partners around the world.
In 2024, 92% of textiles we prepared for recycling went into open-loop recycling—meaning they were transformed into new applications beyond their original use. These ranged from textile wipers to nonwovens for thermal and acoustic insulation.
Closed-loop recycling, in the form of textile-to-textile recycling represented 8% of recycling textile outcomes in 2024, with this figure steadily increasing. Today, closed-loop recycling occurs primarily via mechanical recycling of textiles, such as the shredding of garments to make new fiber.
We expect that within the next few years, chemical recycling of textiles will evolve so that there will be more garment recycling technologies available and reliable on a scale.
