Responsible Disposal
A small remainder of garments contaminated or ineligible for reuse or recycling are disposed of in established waste facilities, prioritizing energy recovery through incineration whenever possible.
Incineration comes at a cost—whether for us, or our sorting partners. Sending textiles to incineration when they could be reused or recycled makes little sense—both environmentally and economically.
At our owned-facilities, we are legally required to register all incineration-bound waste in our Waste Management Register.
At our Polch facility, our 10% contaminated textiles are transported to a local incineration plant – in Mainz, and occasionally Cologne, depending on plant capacity.
In regions where we operate through partners, these partners are actively engaged in the responsible disposal of garments, utilizing certified infrastructure and compliant systems available within the local context.
